Solas Web Design recently completed a new website for The Salmon Bookshop & Literary Centre
The Salmon Bookshop and Literary Centre began life in September 2012. Setting up the bookshop was a natural progression for Salmon Poetry, one of Ireland’s major poetry publishers (established in 1981). When I moved to Co. Clare in 1995, it was obvious to me that Ennistymon needed a bookshop, but Siobhán Hutson and I were too busy with publishing to focus on what would be a time-consuming enterprise. So, it was a great delight when we were offered a chance to take over a bookshop that had been set up a year earlier; buying the stock and beginning our adventure! We’re having a terrific time being connected to the community in Ennistymon and sharing our love of books with so many avid readers.
One thing I’m particularly proud of is our large walled garden. It was in terrible shape and is now a showpiece and the location for many tremendously successful readings and book launches. The Ennistymon Book Town Festival, annually in May, has hosted the best of Irish and international poetry and music in the bookshop garden.
